"It brings a little bit more alive"

Connection Between
Part one

Mine fascination to materiality gives me motivation to proceed projects.

It gives me possibility to experiment with different kind of materials. Especially when the tangibility is still visible through the whole project but with a surprising combination with techniques. For this project I already knew which material and which technique I would be working with. Clay and augmented reality (AR). From there on I chose three different stadiums of the material clay as central point of the project. The stadiums are liquid, malleable and withered.

The material needed to give me information about itself, what it even did not know about itself. From tangible research and experimentation, I got to know about the characteristics of the materials stadiums. I connected it to recognisable emotions for me and for others. Like searching for perfection, never want to lose control and finally coming loose. Every emotion gets there one tile, a poem and animation for the AR. The hands that are displayed on the tiles stand for the process to get to know the material.

The feeling that comes out of those phases are different. Through AR animation on the tiles I want to give people a better connection to the material and the emotion. That why I used an old material combined with a new technique to give the public renewed connection to the vulnerable and tangible material clay.

The process and experimentation of this project says a lot about me as a maker. That I let myself be guided by the material. That material is central to me and that the material tells the story I want to tell. Find where the limit is and strengthen this with a technique that is completely separate from it. To connect two different worlds to create a new reality.

Part two

This is part one of the project. Because this is about self support/self reflecting about yourself, you should not self reflect on one place like a exposition. That is why i am creating a item for at home, so you would self reflect at a place you come to most. The object will also be with AR to give the item more depth. The AR animation will be about the given feeling of  the chosen stadium like liquid, malleable or withered. The item will remind you of the given emotion.

The image next will give you a example how it would look like for malleable. When you can not have everything in control and learn to let go.

Narcissus, the god of our society

We were interested in the parallels between narcissism and todays' social media. Has social media turned us into narcissist?

The myth of Narcissus is about a man who was so in love with his own reflection, that it eventually killed him, this is where the term narcissism comes from. Narcissist feel superior to others, compromising for their own self-loathing.

Todays' social media culture is all about this. We show the world how happy we are and get likes and comments in return. This doesn't truly make us happy, all it does create a desire for more attention and a need to keep up with all other "perfect" people.

Bookcover_ Birk

Birk

Created a new bookcover for the book "Birk" from Jaap Robben with the materials clay. With the materials i want to say is about the boy character that he is very vulnerable.

Also created a animation around the book and made a decor for the animation with the material clay, because of the vulnerability and tangibility
